freddie charles is an independent singer-songwriter from Greenwich, South-East London, making music that moves between melancholy indie pop, new-wave rock, acoustic and electronic.

His first EP, HOME, arrived in August 2021. Recorded at home and built from songs written years earlier, it captured the strange experience of returning to the place where you grew up and finding that it no longer feels familiar. Cold and wintry in tone, the record searched for comfort, identity and a sense of belonging that had quietly slipped away. Songs such as where did you go and Call me crazy helped form the sound of what would become his next album.

In 2022, freddie charles released Did It Mean Anything?. Across eighteen tracks, he reflected on the end of relationships, the breakup of bands, the loss of a job, returning from university and the life he had once been part of. The closing of that period reaches its climax in King, moving beyond the romantic loss explored in songs such as I thought I’d always be in love with you and You don’t love me no more. The album asks whether the choices, ambitions and former versions of yourself that once felt so important meant anything at all.

In 2023, A False Belief brought those themes into sharper focus. Originally conceived under the title Delusions, the album explores the stories the mind can make feel completely real, particularly the imagined ways in which other people see us. It begins with momentum and the possibility of adventure, then gradually moves towards an ending that feels like waking from a dream.

The 2024 EPs Everyone leaves, but why did you? and It gets better everyday. marked a change in direction. The first treats memory as a collage of people, departures and different versions of the self. The second reflects a more confident and optimistic period, replacing emotional stasis with a clearer sense of movement.

Released in 2025, The Intermission brought together older songs and experiments that had never found a natural place elsewhere. Rather than a conclusion, it acts as a pause between larger chapters.

freddie charles is now working on Robotic Ghosts Will Haunt You, a louder, cleaner and more purposeful record that brings electronic textures into the rock energy and emotional directness of his earlier work.
